Created in 1949, the Savings and Loan Department (WIHV85-A2110) was renamed the Office of the Commissioner of Savings and Loan in 1967. The Office continues as an independent regulatory agency. Under 1995 Wisconsin Act 27, the Office and its divisions were transferred to the newly created Dept. of Financial Institutions (WIHV96-A846), effective July 1, 1996.
